Distilleries
There are a number of Whisky Distilleries situated within the Highlands including the following which are regularly open to the general public for tours and tasting:
The Glenmorangie Distillery and visitor centre can be found on the outskirts of Tain, about 25 miles from our B&B. Situated by the shores of the Dornoch Firth, the famous Glenmorangie distillery has been crafting unique single malt whiskies for centuries from the 'Glen of Tranquillity'.
The Glen Ord Distillery. Located near the village of Muir of Ord (5 miles from our B&B), the distillery dates from 1838 and produces a Highland Malt which is regarded as the "Whisky from the Black Isle".
Tomatin Distillery. Located just off the A9 midway between Aviemore and Inverness. Tomatin (22 miles from us) comes from the Gaelic meaning 'the hill of the Juniper bushes'.
The Clynelish Distillery at Brora is about 50 miles from Roadside Croft heading North-East up the A9 coast road. As well as producing its own labels, it provides the malt whisky at the heart of the Johnnie Walker Gold Label blend.
While in the area, you might also wish to visit Moniack Castle Highland Wineries which produces a variety of wines, liqueures, sauces and preserves. It is easy to find off the main Inverness - Beauly road (the A862).
The Speyside Malt Whisky Trail is home of over half of Scotland's distilleries and is well worth a day trip. It starts at Forres (32 miles from Roadside Croft).
